Follow Friday (2)

Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. It is a fun way to find new blogs and get new followers.

Q: Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

I'm normally open to a lot of genres but two I won't read are contemporary and realistic fiction. Why? Because I read books to escape. I want to leave this world and go somewhere else on a magical adventure with unicorns and rainbows. Okay, well not unicorn and rainbows cause I'm a "more action the better" type of gal but you get my point. If I wanted to read a book about real life, I'd just go live my own! When I read a contemporary/realistic fiction not only do they show a normal girl like me, but this girl is living a more interesting life than me and that just ain't fair. At least with other genres, even though they live more interesting lives than me, they aren't real.

What about y'all? Are there any genres you avoid like the plague?

  1. You know, I tend to agree with you on contemporary fiction, for the exact same reason. My bestie (and co-blogger) totally enjoys that sort of thing, but not me. Great answer.

  3. I love your reasonings behind not wanting to read contemps =) It really isn't fair that their lives not only sound real, but sound better than my own. I don't mind reading them though, its nice to have them interspersed with all the paranormal books I tend to read. It helps bring me back to reality a bit.

  4. Oh man, I LOVE contemporary! There are some really amazing ones out there. I definitely understand what you're saying though. At least in paranormal books you know it's not even possible for your life to be like that, haha.
